Qutub Minar, South New Delhi

Construction of Qutub Minar was initiated in 1192.

The sculptures of human images reveal that this mosque was once a hindu temple.  The faces, arms and legs were scraped off - since Islam does not allow worship to any images in the mosque.

The iron pillar in the center was erected in 4th century AD to commemorate Lord Vishnu.   The pillar bears Sanskrit script and has not rusted.  The smoothness of the pillar makes it rust proof.
